Description:

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications for a tenure stream faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in the area of Green Energy Materials. The appointment will commence on September 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter.  

The successful candidate will show established leadership, sustained innovation and ongoing excellence in research and teaching in the area of materials for sustainable energy conversion and storage. The candidate should have demonstrated an exceptional record of excellence in research and teaching. They are expected to have a significant solid theoretical background and extensive research experience in one or more of the following specific areas: Energy storage, including battery materials, electrochemistry, catalysis, supercapacitors, and hydrogen energy. The position is primarily for an experimental expertise, but complementary experience with computer simulations would be considered an asset. Demonstrable experience in industrial work and/or collaborating with industrial partners is also desirable. The candidate should be able to teach courses relevant to materials chemistry, electrochemistry, and energy storage.  

Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field, demonstrated excellence in research and excellent teaching skills. Postdoctoral or industrial experience is an asset. The successful candidate will be expected to sustain and lead an independent and innovative research program of international caliber, and to teach at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels.   

Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in research and teaching. Excellence in research is evidenced primarily by sustained and impactful publications in leading journals or conferences in the field, distinguished awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences and a high profile in the field with strong endorsements by referees of high international standing.  Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated by strong communication skills, a compelling statement of teaching highlighting areas of interest and accomplishments, the teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below) submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of recommendation.  

Eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is strongly desirable. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
