The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) is a research centre for the study, analysis and public dissemination of contemporary history of Luxembourg and Europe with a particular focus on digital methods and tools for doing innovative historical research. It serves as a catalyst for innovative and creative scholarship and new forms of public dissemination and societal engagement with history.
The PhD student will be a member of C²DH, the world’s largest research centre for digital history. The student will work under the supervision of Prof. Dr Sean Takats as part of his Digital History Advanced Research Projects Accelerator (DHARPA) team of technicians and researchers in the humanities and social sciences. DHARPA experiments with how technology can reshape the methodological underpinnings of history as a scientific discipline, and the team is currently developing a new digital platform for historical research along the lines of Prof. Takats’s other projects, including Tropy and Zotero.
Your Role…
- Research and write a history thesis in the domain of early modern, modern, or contemporary European history. Conduct thesis research using digital sources, tools, and/or methods
- Draft and submit one new or entirely revised chapter to the Programming Historian based on their own research and technical interests
- Share sample workflows of their historical data processing via informal channels (e.g. workshop, conference paper, blog post)
- Participate in the development of the digital platform described above
