Postdoctoral Fellow at the Section for Clinical Psychology, Department of Psychology, University of Oslo, is open for candidates with a PhD in Psychology, Medicine or other health-related disciplines. The section carries responsibilities for the Department’s research, teaching, innovation and communication in clinical psychology.

he appointment is a fulltime position for a period of two years connected to the SIBS research project at the Section for Clinical Psychology.

About the SIBS research project

The SIBS research project is initiated by the Department of Psychology, UiO, and Frambu Resource Centre for Rare Disorders. The research project involves a multidisciplinary consortium of national and international collaborators, including academic institutions, health care authorities and providers, and patient user organizations. The SIBS project focuses on siblings of children with chronic disorders, who have a documented elevated risk for mental health problems and reduced quality of life. The vision of SIBS is to improve the mental health and quality of life in children and adolescents who are siblings of children with chronic disorders. Currently, the project is conducting a randomized controlled trial (RCT) examining a preventive group intervention for siblings and parents of children with chronic health conditions, involving multiple sites across Norway. The SIBS RCT study is a collaboration with Lillestrøm municipality and is funded by the Research Council of Norway. The aim of the study is to provide municipal health care services with a novel and user-tailored intervention that will allow health providers to offer evidence-based health services to siblings. The study protocol is described in Trials. The SIBS RCT study will generate sibling- and parent-reported questionnaire data, biological data, video data, registry data, and implementation data. This extensive database allows for multiple and various research questions and both quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches. The candidate will take on a central role in executing the research efforts connected with the SIBS RCT study; however, the post doc candidate will be able to take an active part in the development of the research questions and publication plan of the post doc fellowship, which can be accommodated to specific research interests and skills of the candidate.

The post doc candidate will be part of a large international research network. The SIBS project group comprises several national and international senior researchers, as well as three PhD candidates. In addition to being primary author on their own papers, the post doc candidate will be invited to co-author papers of co-workers in the project group. A detailed publication plan for the candidate will be developed based on their interests and qualifications. Please indicate in the application letter if your interest is mainly in genetics/biological data, intervention research, family process research, group dynamics or in specific disorders. Please also describe your experience with and preference for qualitative and/or quantitative approaches.

Qualification requirements

  • Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in psychology, medicine or other health-related disciplines (PhD). The doctoral dissertation must have been submitted for evaluation prior to the closing date. The appointment is dependent on the public defense and the doctoral thesis being approved
  • The candidate’s research focus must be relevant to ongoing research activities in the SIBS research project. Skills in statistical programs is an advantage as well as interest in and knowledge of the structuring of quantitative -, qualitative- and mixed research designs
  • The successful applicant will be selected on the basis of educational background, publication record, and interest in the area. Clinical experience within the field of the topic for the SIBS project or experience with other preventive mental health programs will also be considered valuable for the application but is not required
  • The candidate must have the ability to work in collaborative groups and independently, be structured and goal oriented, have high motivation and be capable of efficient work structure, and have strong relational skills.
