The University College Groningen (UCG) is a faculty of the University of Groningen. The faculty is an international community, staff and students are from across the globe. The atmosphere of UCG is characterized as informal, committed and dynamic and the learning environments are generally small-scale and interactive.
In September 2014 UCG started a Liberal Arts and Sciences programme, which offers broad academic education with a focus on engagement to societal challenges through project-based education and interdisciplinary integration.

Position
As a lecturer you will be teaching and further develop central Artificial Intelligence and Data Science courses in our program. We prefer you will also be able to contribute to teaching another computing Science course and one or more courses in our Mathematics continuum (Mathematics, Calculus, Linear Algrebra) or in the Statistics sequence. The position may also involve some combination of supervising bachelor theses or contributing to the teaching of other elements of our Liberal Arts and Sciences core curriculum such as projects. We believe it is important that you also engage in research, ideally in an interdisciplinary way which would also involve UCG students.

Qualifications

  • a PhD in Computing Science, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence or a closely related discipline, candidates in the process of finishing their PhD are also welcome to apply
  • teaching experience, good student evaluations and preferably a University Teaching qualification
  • experience in AI/machine learning demonstrated by a publication track record, teaching experience or industry experience
  • experience in project-based education is preferred
  • you are a teamplayer and a good communicator
  • an international background or experience
  • you have an affinity for working in working in an interdisciplinary setting
  • near-native English proficiency.You are able to demonstrate experience with educational innovation and active learning methods
  • you are willing to learn the Dutch language, for which support is available.

Conditions of employment

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

  • a salary, depending on qualifications and work experience, with a minimum of € 3,974 to a maximum of € 5,439 (salary scale 11) gross per month for a full-time position
  • a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income
  • an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance
  • participation in a pension scheme for employees. Favourable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The appointment will be on a temporary basis for 2 years.
