Applications are invited from highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate to the above role to investigate and perform research to disseminate findings on a Team Alliance project funded by DBT India and Wellcome Trust entitled “ Regulation of Plasmodium Cell cycle and cell division by protein phosphorylation” under the supervision of Professor Rita Tewari.
The research will involve unravelling regulatory mechanism of cell cycle by plasmodium kinases in parasite proliferative stages within mosquito vector. This is to identify parasite target for the divergent kinases that are involved in parasite cell cycle and cell division, dissect the signalling network and how key substrates of the kinases regulate key parasite proliferation stages. The work will involves gene targeting both conditional knockdown and CRISPR-CAS9 gene editing using rodent malaria parasites, cutting edge cell biology, phosphorylation assay and phosphor-proteomics.
This is collaborative project with Dr Pushkar Sharma at National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi who will be involved in deciphering divergent kinase in blood stage of parasite using human parasite Plasmodium falciparum and Prof TS Keshava Prasad University of Manglore India who will be supporting the project with quantitative proteomics and phosphor-proteomics and interactomics to understand signalling pathways during cell cycle. This will give holistic view of cell cycle in Plasmodium in both human and mosquito host involving three partners.
Candidates must hold a PhD, (awarded or pending) or equivalent in a relevant subject area of kinase biology and cell division – molecular parasitology, yeast genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, genetics etc. The experience with cell signalling, proteomics and phosphor-proteomics is highly desirable.
This is a full-time (36.25 hours), fixed term post to 31st October 2025. Arrangements for job share would be considered.
Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Rita Tewari rita.tewari@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted
