Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a long-term difference in society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has over 54,000 students, more than 7,500 employees and a turnover of around SEK 8 billion.
The Department of Pharmacy at Uppsala University has an interdisciplinary environment at the center of the pharmaceutical arena. With frontline research, first-rate education and extensive collaborations we constitute an important driving force in the development of our academic field. The department has approximately 140 employees and a turnover of approximately 140 million. We are looking for a postdoc in pharmacometrics.
In this inspiring environment our rich diversity of research groups, several of international prominence, develop and conduct work of great scientific importance. Among our core competences are pharmacokinetics-pharmacodynamics, computational modelling and simulations, in vitro ADME models, advanced in vivo methods, development of biological medicines, as well as patient and societal aspects, from optimizing the use of drugs in individuals to societal pharmaceutical policies. Together, we form a unique cluster of academic competences within pharmaceutical science, playing a key role in shaping the future of pharmacy in both Sweden and globally.
Our scientific focus areas in selection: Pharmacometrics • Pharmacodynamics • Pharmacokinetics • Biologics • Clinical Pharmacy • Drug Delivery • Molecular Pharmaceutics • Pharmaceutics and Nanotechnology • Pharmacoeconomics • Pharmacoepidemiology • Pharmacotherapy • Social Pharmacy

Duties
The project will involve establishment of pharmacometric models based on observational data from health quality registers. The developed pharmacometric models will be implemented in a tool to help patients with type 2 diabetes better understand how their treatments affects their risk of long term complications, e.g., cardiovascular and diabetic kidney disease. The algorithms will also be used to visualise the expected change in disease risk with achievement of various treatments goals and through this motivate adherence to therapy.
The project involves data-driven pharmacometric modelling and simulation techniques investigating the optimal way of handling register data to identify predictive covariates. The precision medicine tools developed in this project will lead to better treatment for patients with diabetes and may also provide new ways to identify patients at risk of long term complications.
Requirements
The applicant must have a relevant university degree, e.g., pharmaceutical science or medicine. Applications from highly motivated candidates are welcome.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability and experience of programming-based data management. The applicant must be able to express him/herself well, both in oral and written English. The applicant should also have good collaboration skills and capability and interest in conducting independent research with support from a supervisor.
Additional qualifications
Prior experience of working with health register data is advantageous, as is experience in pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacometrics and epidemiology. We would also like to see that the candidate has experience of NONMEM or similar modelling software as well as R-programming.
Interest in scientific writing is highly desirable.
