The Department of Mathematics conducts research and provides education at undergraduate and graduate levels in mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. We are advertising one PhD position to work at the Department of Mathematics with Associate Professor Michele Del Zotto within symmetries of quantum fields. The position is co-funded by the Simons Collaboration on Global Categorical Symmetries and the ERC starting grant 851931, The Memory of Solitons.

Duties
The duties of a PhD student are primarily directed at his/her own research education, which lasts for four years. The work may also involve, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), other departmental duties, mainly related to teaching undergraduate courses – in which case the position may be extended to maximum five years. The PhD student will work under the supervision of Michele Del Zotto in the context of generalizations of symmetries in quantum field theories.

Requirements
To meet the entry requirements for doctoral studies, you must

  • hold a Master’s (second-cycle) degree in Mathematics or Theoretical Physics, or
  • have completed at least 240 credits in higher education, with at least 60 credits at Master’s level including an independent project worth at least 15 credits, or
  • have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way.

The candidate should have a good command of spoken and written English. Knowledge of Swedish is not required.

Additional qualifications
Proven experience with generalized global symmetries of quantum fields is considered an advantage.
