We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Researcher with a passion for bioinformatics to join our dynamic team. You will be a part of the Kallioniemi research group. Our group focuses on optimizing treatments for individual cancer patients based on molecular profiling and functional drug testing. Our goal is to develop a systems biology framework to match targeted therapies and drug combinations using omics- profiling and drug testing. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research projects in the field of medical science.
Your work will be carried out at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab), which is a leading national infrastructure for next-generation life science research in Sweden. SciLifeLab is jointly operated by the four host universities: Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University and Uppsala University, and it has facilities in four other universities across Sweden. There are over 1000 people working at SciLifeLab, either in research groups or in the infrastructure facilities, most of them in the KI Solna campus and in Uppsala. This position resides at the Solna campus.
Your mission
Your mission is to be part and help in a leading research environment for functional precision systems medicine research. The focus of the work will be to utilize datasets in the lab and with bioinformatic methods to identify new treatment opportunities in patients with cancer. Specifically, you will:
- Analyze and interpret complex biological data sets, particularly in the context of precision medicine.
- Implement advanced bioinformatics pipelines to analyze single-cell and multi-omics data.
- Develop innovative approaches for dataset quality control, harmonization, and integration to derive meaningful insights from diverse datasets.
- Collaborate closely with researchers and scientists to design in silico experiments, guide laboratory studies, provide data analysis support, and contribute meaningful analysis to research publications.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in bioinformatics and medical science to bring novel methodologies to the team.
- Disseminate results in scientific publications and publicly available data visualization tools. Present the work in group meetings, internally at KI, and at scientific conferences
Your profile
To be employed as a postdoctor, a completed doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be met at the latest at the time when the employment decision is made. It is advantageous if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
Requirements:
- A Ph.D. degree in a relevant field such as pharmaceutical sciences, medical sciences, biological sciences, or data science. You should not have earnt your Ph.D. degree earlier than 3 years from the start date of the position
- Demonstrated expertise in bioinformatics, with a strong focus on the analysis of single-cell and multi-omics datasets.
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in bioinformatics, such as R, Python, or MatLab.
- Solid understanding of statistical methods and their application to biological data.
- Familiarity with data harmonization techniques, particularly in the context of integrating diverse datasets from multiple sources.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven track record of scientific publications and contributions to bioinformatics or medical research projects.
Additional Skills (Preferred):
- Background in cancer genomics, immunology, or other medical-related fields.
- Knowledge of machine learning and its applications to biological data analysis.
- Experience with bioinformatics tools and databases commonly used in medical research.
- Strong data visualization skills to effectively communicate research findings.
