The role is based in the Paediatric Hematology and Oncology division at the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health.
As a postdoctoral student you will learn to plan and run experiments, analyse data as well as prepare publication-quality figures, and draft manuscripts. The successful candidate will present results at national and international conferences.
Duties
This postdoctoral scholarship is focused on skeletal growth and the mechanisms of its maintenance. The successful candidate will be expected to plan and conduct experimental research to reveal basic mechanisms relating to skeletal disorders arising from childhood cancer treatments. More specifically, duties will include collecting and analysing human tissues, maintaining a colony of mice, processing and analysing murine samples. Methodologies include confocal microscopy, histological and histochemical staining, immunofluoresence, multi-target in situ hybridisation and spatial transcriptomics.
Your profile
We are looking for an enthusiastic and curious person who is passionate about furthering knowledge through scientific research. You must be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and have a positive attitude towards problem-solving. Prior practical experience of studying stem cells in an in vivo setting, childhood cancer research, or with cartilage tissues would be advantageous.
The successful postdoctoral student should:
- hold a PhD in molecular or cellular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering or a very closely-related discipline
- be structured and responsible
- enjoy working as part of a team
- be fluent in written and spoken English
- have expertise in standard techniques of molecular biology and cell biology
Entry requirements
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The Head of the Department determines whether the applicant’s previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
Type of scholarship
The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
