A permanent position is available at the Department of Education for an Associate Professor in Workplace or Organizational Learning.  We are seeking applicants whose research interests and academic merits relate to research in workplace learning, professional knowledge development or organizational learning. We welcome candidates with a background in educational- or other relevant social sciences such as organizational sociology or organizational psychology, who are motivated to conduct research and contribute with research-based knowledge to the shifting demands of learning and knowledge development in work organizations. Research themes of relevance for the position include: Digitalization and its implications for learning, knowledge development and work organization; Learning and knowledge development during organizational change or innovation processes; Learning and knowledge development in the context of interprofessional or client-oriented work and Learning throughout working life. 


Experience from participating in collaborative research projects will be an advantage. In our assessment of applicants we will also emphasize experience and competency in different research designs and methodologies. In addition to the scientific merits, work experience from HRM-processes or organizational development will be considered a strength. 
Experience from teaching and supervision in related courses or study programmes will be an advantage.  

The position includes educational responsibilities within workplace learning. The Department of Education offers a master-level specialization track focusing on knowledge development and learning in working life, as well as specialization track in the bachelor programme that qualifies for admission to the master programme (see links to KULA and KAT in Norwegian). The successful candidate is expected to take on teaching and supervision tasks and to contribute to the collective development of these educational programmes. It is desirable that he/she participates in one of the research groups in the Department, such as HEDWORK.
The position involves 47 % teaching, 47 % research, and 6 % administrative tasks.

Qualification requirements

  • Doctoral degree in education or another relevant social science discipline
  • Documented research competence within workplace or organisational learning
  • Documented basic university pedagogical competence. Applicants who do not have documented basic university pedagogical competence must acquire this within two years from appointment. 
  • Documentation of qualifications in dissemination, management and administration will count positively. 
  • Good communication skills both written and oral in English and Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) are a prerequisite for performing all the tasks associated with the position.

The successful candidate who at the time of appointment cannot document basic teaching qualifications will be required to obtain such qualifications within a two-year period.


The successful candidate must demonstrate mastery of both English and one of the Scandinavian languages as working languages. If an appointee lacks sufficient skills in a Scandinavian language, the appointee is required within a two-year period to obtain this skill.
