Two three-year positions for postdoctoral research scientists are available in the Hamann research group at the Department of Biology (www.hamannlab.org). The research group is investigating the mode of action of the plant cell wall integrity maintenance mechanism. Further information about the research area and interests can be found in the following recent publications: Gigli-Bisceglia et al., Cell and Molecular Life Sciences 2020; Vaahtera et al., Nature Plants 2019.

We are primarily interested in applicants with a strong research track record in plant cell and/or developmental biology, which are aiming to pursue an academic career. Applicants with extensive expertise in GWAS, advanced imaging, biochemical and cell biological methods that can be used to characterize cell wall damage perception and signal translation in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana and/or food crop species are of particular interest to us  The newly hired team members will join the recently established multiscale biology section, where currently three new associate professors are being hired in molecular plant physiology, plant ecology and ecosystems modelling. Duties of the position

  • perform research in plant cell and/or developmental biology.
  • educate and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • contribute to running of a research lab and infrastructure maintenance.
  • develop management, education skills and scientific profile.

Required selection criteria

Postdoctoral fellow:

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree in [subject area] or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

The following achievements, skills and/or knowledge are required:

–    Publications in peer-reviewed journals
–    Very good skills in imaging of cellular and/or subcellular structures using modern types of microscopy.
–    Very good knowledge about plant cell and / or plant developmental biology
–    Very good expertise in standard molecular biological techniques.
–    Very good written and oral English language skills 

Other qualifications:

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral fellowship:
The period of employment is 3 years (with teaching duties). 

Postdoctoral candidates are placed in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 542 400 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.
