At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology, a position as Associate Professor in Design Driven Innovation is open for appointment from May 1st, 2021 or soon hereafter. The Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology’s goal is the development of an innovative cluster of engineering-based environments for education and research which integrate creativity, engineering and technology within the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, digital design and interactive media. The department is a leading research and educational environment in Denmark that addresses the challenge of the interplay between creativity and technology, and develops new areas in research and education directed towards the end-user.
The Design Driven Innovation Research Group is committed to design, research, and scholarship at the highest level and is dedicated to a sustainable, socially responsible and critically engaged vision of design. The research group sees design and design thinking as an approach to solve complex challenges, for instance sustainable consumption and sustainable production of products or critical and ethical applications of new technologies.
Given this context, the Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology are looking for candidates to join our team with an interest and capacity to work and teach within a rigorous research environment. This includes addressing contemporary critical, practical, and theoretical issues within the strategic – or sustainable design field.
Preferably, you have the ability to advance our research among several broad areas of design inquiry including design thinking, design research methodologies; innovation, product longevity, sustainable design and consumption. We are looking for candidates with the character and energy to participate in the intellectual life of the department, faculty responsibilities include teaching, academic and thesis advising, and participation in department committees and governance.
You are expected to have a background in Engineering Design, Industrial Design, Product Design or similar qualifications. Moreover, you have a research record that show promise and significance to the field of design and/or innovation, as well as experience with research funding or participation in project funded by external agencies (e.g. private, national or international funding agencies).
You have talent and ability to teach design studios activities and core courses, focusing on the integration of critical and strategic thinking into the user- and performance-oriented design process. The readiness to engage in research-based teaching to both graduate and undergraduate students is expected, along with the ability to add new dimensions to our teaching and intellectual activities.

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.
