Manchester United vs Aston Villa: Late drama amid shock Villa win

After both teams had plenty of chances throughout, and United lost Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw to injury, it was Villa who took the lead in the 88th minute.

Kortney Hause headed home as it looked like he had secured just a second win in 46 Premier League games against Man United for Villa. Moments later he conceded a harsh penalty kick for handball, but Bruno Fernandes shockingly smashed his penalty over the bar and into the Stretford End in the 93rd minute.

Manchester United Player Ratings vs Aston Villa (Sept 25, 2021)

Manchester United are looking to make it 4 wins on the trot in the Premier League & continue their chase for the title when they host a brace Aston Villa side at Old Trafford. They were unable to do so, instead falling to a shocking 0-1 loss after failing to convert the gazillion chances created.

The Red Devils might’ve dominated 60% of the possession and attempted 15 shots in an entertaining first half, but the visitors had the best of chances – which fortunately for United – they couldn’t convert.

After not being able to score from so many chances created, United were made to pay late on – when Kortney Hause scored a thumping header in the 88th minute to give Villa the lead!

The Red Devils then got a big chance to get bailed out after being given a penalty in added time – which Bruno Fernandes shockingly blasted over the goal.

Man United slump, mounting injuries a worrying trend for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

MANCHESTER, England — Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been at Manchester United long enough to know that you are never more than one game away from a crisis, and after Aston Villa‘s 1-0 win at Old Trafford on Saturday, it’s now three defeats from the past four games for the Norwegian.

A first Premier League defeat to the season — thanks to Kortney Hause‘s 88th-minute winner and an even later penalty miss from Bruno Fernandes — followed on quickly from the Carabao Cup third-round exit to West Ham on Wednesday and a shock defeat at Young Boys in the Champions League on Sept. 14.

Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire both injured for Manchester United

Luke Shaw hobbled off with an injury for Manchester United vs Aston Villa, and so too did Harry Maguire.

That is half of United’s, and England’s, defense going down in the same game.

As for Shaw, the England left back was subbed off in the first half at Old Trafford. Luke Shaw suffered the injury early in the first half and tried to play on.

Shaw, 26, has stayed relatively injury free for most of the last two seasons but the England international looked dejected as he hobbled off at Old Trafford.

However, 10 minutes before half time he was subbed off as Diogo Dalot replaced him. It looked like Shaw suffered a hamstring or upper leg injury, as he pulled up initially after a Manchester United attack.

Manchester United stunned by late Aston Villa header, lose as Bruno Fernandes misses injury time penalty

Manchester United recorded 28 shots against Aston Villa on Saturday, had 60 percent possession, earned a penalty kick in added time yet still lost, 1-0. It was Kortney Hause’s dramatic 88th-minute winner that helped Villa pull off the upset of the weekend, spoiling a chance for United to move to the top of the Premier League table.

The Red Devils were on the front foot all match long but managed to put just four of their 28 shots on frame. Superstar midfielder Bruno Fernandes had the chance to rescue a point in added time via a penalty kick, but the Portuguese player sent the ball flying into the stands at Old Trafford with a horribly executed take. Curiously, Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored over a 100 penalty kicks in his career, did not take the kick with his fellow efficient countryman getting the opportunity. United have now lost three of their last four games in all competitions, including being booted from the EFL Cup against West Ham on Wednesday.
