PhD Candidate in Mobile Network Security will be expected to investigate different classes of attacks on 5G mobile networks

Open public Internet access is an important building block of our communication. Networks that can provide connectivity around the globe have large potential, but still rely on attack-prone Wi-Fi without metadata protection. As a PhD Candidate, your research into mobile networks will help design and implement an open 5G infrastructure with improved privacy and security.

Within the project, the research focus can be tuned to your interests. You will be expected to investigate different classes of attacks on 5G mobile networks. This not only requires the design and implementation of simulation models, but also the setup of measurement frameworks and lab network setups. In a following step, you will process and analyse the collected data in order to draw conclusions. To investigate possible new attack vectors and defences against present-day attacks, you will transfer and apply common methods from other research areas in order to find creative new solutions.

Besides research, the position involves teaching responsibilities regarding the Master’s course in Advanced Network Security. This includes supporting the course through the definition of practical exercises that focus on challenges in the context of mobile network security. You will have a teaching load of up to 10%.
