Environmental modelling has become ubiguitous and has played pivotal roles in creating awareness of environmental problems and informing policy and management decisions. Modelling has profound political implications because it shapes not only how nature and environment are understood, but also what knowledge is relevant, and what policy options are feasible and effective. This PhD project will use a critical political and justice lens to examine environmental modelling practices and their implications for people, nature, knowledge and policy. This is especially urgent in the context of global environmental change and policies that aim to ensure the resilience of landscapes and landscape-derived livelihoods. The project will select a number of cases and analyze these drawing on theories from political science, science and technology studies, and theories of environmental, multi-species, epistemological and ontological justice.
