The Postdoc will have the opportunity to join a cross-disciplinary, international team working on developing experimental and numerical methods for wind turbine aerodynamics.

In the ARD section at DTU Wind & Energy Systems, we want you to be part of our research in aerodynamic design of wind turbine rotors. The research field of the position is focused on wind turbine rotor aerodynamics investigated in the context of structural and load performance and aeroacoustics. The focus will be aerodynamic research activities spanning from pure aerodynamic modeling to multi-disciplinary modeling.

The ADD section focuses on aerodynamic and aeroacoustic research based on modelling and experimental techniques. The research in the ARD section deals with fidelities ranging from engineering models to vortex-based and CFD models, facilitating Fluid Structure Interaction methods and multidisciplinary design. The tools and knowledge are applied in interaction with the industry in the design process for solving problems or implementing new concepts. Further, the new Poul la Cour Wind Tunnel, the Research Turbine, and the Rotating Test Rig are integrated into our research.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The Postdoc will have the opportunity to join a cross-disciplinary, international team working on developing experimental and numerical methods for wind turbine aerodynamics. The particular areas of responsibilities include:

  • Modelling of rotor aerodynamics with low fidelity methods
  • Exploration of the general design space for wind turbine rotors
  • Multi-disciplinary modeling of wind turbine rotors using low fidelity methods incl. aerodynamic models, structural models and noise models
  • It is required that key research results are disseminated in peer reviewed journal papers and presented at scientific conferences.

Most of the work will be done in nationally and internationally funded research projects and apply the newest research together with leading manufacturers within the wind turbine industry.

Qualifications
As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). This entails:

  • a strong background in wind turbine aerodynamics
  • experience within CFD
  • experience with low fidelity modeling of aerodynamics
  • Matlab, Python and Fortran programming skills (or similar)
  • ability to work independently towards the research goals and deliverables
  • ability to pro-actively collaborate and coordinate with other researchers,
  • fluency in communicating, reading and writing English.
