The Research in Orthopedic Computer Science group of the University of Zurich offers the possible to conduct a PhD study in an exciting, large research project called PROFICIENCY. PROFICIENCY is targeting the development of next-generation surgical training using Mixed Reality and Artificial Intelligence.

Your responsibilities

The PhD student will be responsible for developing novel surgical training approaches by combining state-of-the-art hardware (RGB-D cameras, optical tracking, and augmented reality devices) with mixed reality research. Computer Vision and Computer Assisted Surgery. The PhD candidate is expected to advance the state of the art in computer graphics, computer vision, and robotics, which should lead to new scientific contributions to the field of computer-assisted surgery and surgical training.

Your profile

MSc in computer science with theoretical and practical experience in camera/tracking systems, Mixed Reality as well as algorithmic knowledge about computer vision (3D reconstruction, camera calibration, object tracking) and computer graphics (rendering, surface registration, openGL). Strong programming skills in C++ and C# are mandatory, experience in Unity is beneficial.
