Two PhD students in Ageing and Social Change
formally based at the Division Ageing and Social Change (ASC), Department of Culture and Society (IKOS)
Your work assignments
The PhD students in Ageing and Social Change at ASC will work in the international comparative research programme ‘EIWO – Exclusion and Inequality In Late Working Life: Evidence for policy innovation towards inclusive extended work and sustainable working conditions in Sweden and Europe’. PhD students in this programme will benefit from international cooperation with scientific partners and policy stakeholders as well as from active participation in workshops and conferences over the period of their involvement. As a doctoral student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.
Your workplace
The Division and Research Environment Ageing and Social Change (ASC) conducts leading-edge research on key issues of the ageing society. ASC also provides basic and advanced academic education and contributes to the proliferation of knowledge about ageing within society. Read more as www.ageing.se.
Your qualifications
A successful applicant must hold a master’s degree in Economics, Sociology, Political Sciences, Social Policy, Demography, Methodology or related disciplines, or completed courses with a minimum of 240 ECTS, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses in these fields. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.
Successful candidates should have a substantial interest in life course, working life, social change, regional, national and European policies in general and in the research areas of the EIWO programme combined with a specific interest in research on ageing, inequality and digitalisation, lifelong learning and/or social exclusion in particular in order to carry out research in this area. First documented academic experiences in these issues are especially meriting.
Candidates must have very good knowledge in research methods in social and behavioural sciences, in particular in quantitative methodology. Key competences and experiences include very good knowledge in analysis with registry or survey data from various sources, as well as analysis design and data processing. Documented expertise concerning analysis software such as SPSS and STATA is crucial.
Very good knowledge of English language, both verbal and written, as well as the ability to work well in dialogue with others is expected. The ambition and ability to work in international consortia is especially meriting.
Terms of employment
When taking up the post, you will be admitted to the program for doctoral studies. More information about the doctoral studies at each faculty is available here.
The employment has a duration of four years’ full-time equivalent. You will initially be employed for a period of one year. The employment will subsequently be renewed for periods of maximum duration two years, depending on your progress through the study plan. The employment may be extended up to a maximum of five years, based on the amount of teaching and departmental duties you have carried out. Further extensions can be granted in special circumstances.
