Luleå University of Technology experiences rapid growth with world-leading expertise within several research domains. We shape the future through innovative education and groundbreaking research results and drawing on our location in the Arctic region, we create global societal benefit. Our scientific and artistic research and education are carried out in close collaboration with international, national and regional companies, public actors and leading universities. Luleå University of Technology has an annual turnover of SEK 1.9 billion. Today, we have 1,815 staff and 19,155 students.
In the coming years, multi-billion investments will be made in large projects in Northern Sweden to create a fossil-free society both nationally and globally. Luleå University of Technology is involved in several of these cutting-edge research projects and in the societal transformation that they entail. We offer a broad range of courses and study programmes to match the skills in demand. We hope that you will help us to build the sustainable companies and societies of the future.
Luleå University of Technology, as a part of the WISE program (Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability), funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation, is hereby opening the recruitment of one WISE Fellowship faculty position, Senior Lecturer, in materials science with focus on Atom- and multi-scale modelling of functional material for green applications. The recruited WISE fellow will be part of a national WISE research program with many opportunities for interaction with other researchers and stakeholders within the subject area. The startup package for the recruited WISE fellow includes funding for personal salary for four years (100 %) and two doctoral students (four years each) and two postdoctoral fellows (two years each). The vision of WISE is “To perform basic and need-driven materials science at the international fore-front, to empower sustainable technologies with positive impact on society, and to train future leaders in society, industry, and academia in Sweden.”
The position will be situated at the division of Materials Science, which consists of around 70 researchers, including faculty members, post-docs, PhD students and a few laboratory technicians. The division is placed at the Department of Engineering Sciences and Mathematics with strong research groups with more than 30 professors and a good environment for doctoral education with around 100 PhD students. The research at the division of Materials Science is in line with the WISE vision and is to a large extent focused on the green transformation. The research is conducted in close collaboration with industry and state/government institutions, often in collaboration with colleagues at other universities and research institutes, within the country and internationally. Central to the division’s research is development of new advanced materials (e.g. metals, ceramics, composites, bionano- and multiscale materials), with emphasis on applications in the field of renewable energies and environment, and targeting materials for circular economy through sustainable technologies. Both experimental and computer-based research is carried out.
The ideal candidate will have consolidated and documented expertise on advanced structural and functional materials in the broad field of energy and environment, as described above. Priority will be given to candidates able to demonstrate skills to connect modelling and experiments, with aptitude and competence to solve interdisciplinary problems.
Tasks
The main task is to establish research in the subject area. As a Senior Lecturer you will participate in the development of the research within the Materials Science Division. You will also disseminate the results at international conferences and publish in peer-reviewed international journals. You are also supposed to contribute to division development by attracting funding and by participating to networking activities and research projects at regional, national, and international level. You will be involved in the supervision of students (at M.Sc. and Ph.D. level) and Postdoctoral Fellows. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate, who will significantly contribute to the development of the subject area and will strengthen the connection between modelling and experiments at Division ad Department level.
You will be involved in teaching in relevant courses that are directed towards materials for sustainability. We are changing our engineering program in Materials Science now, towards a clearer curriculum of sustainability and you will have an important role in teaching. A new master program in Climate Physics will be launched soon, and you can contribute there.
The position as a WISE Fellow gives you the opportunity to be active in the WISE program regarding conferences, workshops and networking. The position may also involve leading multi-partnership projects (nationally and internationally) and participating in the management of activities.
