What You’ll Be Doing:

As the Director of Scientific Applications you will provide leadership for the support of computational science within Purdue’s campus cyberinfrastructure, and in support of the NSF-funded “Anvil” system. In collaboration with campus and national stakeholders, implement and oversee the strategic direction for research computing at Purdue.  you will work extensively with the user communities to maintain the highest level of service and satisfaction through effective service delivery. Collect feedback on user needs, potential use case scenarios, and user priorities to be integrated in the future direction for computational resources.  You will work closely with faculty members, IT leaders, and peers at other institutions, and assist the Executive Director of Research Computing with the operational oversight of Research Computing services including budgeting, ‎resource ‎planning ‎and creation of ‎policy, procedures, and ‎standards

What We’re Looking For:

Education and Experience
 

Must have:

  • BA/BS in a science or technology related discipline
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience ‎will be accepted
  • At least eight (8) years of leadership experience
    • Proven management ability and professional growth, ‎demonstrated through advancement to increasingly more responsible positions
    • Recent management experience
  •  ‎Experience developing software or enabling the use of cyberinfrastructure within a domain area or providing scientific support to an academic or research audience

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree


Skills:

  • Broad knowledge with toolchains and scientific applications typically performed on high-performance computing environments, including compilers, scientific libraries and applications
  • Experience with computational science performed on high-performance computing platforms
  • Varied and strong technical and/or research background in areas related to the development or leveraging of cyber infrastructure. 
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills 
  • Effective consulting, presentation, communication, ‎collaboration, and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully organize and lead large complex projects
  • Ability to:
    • work closely and effectively with faculty-lead research teams
    • operate on a strategic level and be politically savvy
    • operate on a strategic level and be politically aware of the requirements and motivations of faculty researchers and other customers and collaborators
    • grasp and implement solutions to complex challenges
    • work with people at all levels of an ‎organization and influence the decision-making process
  • Able to inspire a team to meet project plans and goals
