Laboratory Research Animal Technician, Cancer Center

The Purdue University Center for Cancer Research (PUCCR) is one of only 7 national Basic Science Centers funded by the National Cancer Institute. The Biological Evaluation Shared Resource is a service core functioning within the PUCCR with the mission to support members’ cancer research projects in the discovery of drugs and novel therapies with the goal of curing cancer.  The Shared Resource has an opening for the position of Laboratory Research Animal Technician. The successful candidate will perform routine mouse/rat and biological study procedures, executing established techniques and procedures independently in mouse/rat studies from the beginning to the end of a project. The Technician will be responsible for maintaining detailed, organized records of procedures, experiments, and biologic stocks and will compile and report data to lab clients and Professors. The individual in this role performs cell cultures and tasks related to mouse colony management, maintains lab space, equipment, and inventory related to assigned experiments, ensuring compliance with safety, biologic, and animal protocols and regulations with minimal input.


Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field 
  • One (1) year of research lab or animal experimentation experience
  • Knowledge of cell culture and animal research processes
  • Ability to work with animal and human biologic materials
  • Ability to effectively communicate with client lab members and PIs
  • Ability to make minor changes to experimental procedures to achieve robust data and communicate ideas and methods for improving services and addressing problems
  • Ability to learn more advanced techniques and progress to studies of higher complexity
  • Ability to receive advanced training to maintain skills and to facilitate the expansion of services
