Job Summary

The Flow Cytometry and Genomics Core Facilities in the Bindley Bioscience Center at Purdue University are seeking a research assistant to perform service research for investigators from multiple disciplines. The successful candidate will assist with training, operation and maintenance of the cell sorters and analyzers, Illumina sequencers and support instruments for sequence library creation and QC as well the development and implementation of new techniques/protocols. The Research Assistant will have an opportunity to actively contribute to ongoing research projects and to interact with research teams in the center, and contribute to reporting of experimental procedures and results.


Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, molecular/cellular biology, or related field 
  • One (1) year of experience with research laboratory work, including modern instrumentation controlled by computer software systems, as well as experience with cell biology and cell culture of eukaryotic cells 
  • Good working knowledge of cell biology and immunology
  • Basic molecular biology skills (pipetting, weighing, etc.) and knowledge of aseptic technique
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail 
  • Must be self-motivated and have ability to exercise sound judgement in prioritizing and carrying out tasks
  • Must be comfortable with performing multiple laboratory tasks in parallel

Preferred:

  • Experience with DNA and RNA purification
