At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology, Aalborg University, Copenhagen campus, a position as Assistant Professor in Games will be available for appointment from September 1st 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is available for a period of 3 years. The Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology’s goal is the development of an innovative cluster of engineering-based environments for education and research which integrate creativity, engineering and technology within the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, digital design and interactive media. The department is a leading research and educational environment in Denmark that addresses the challenge of the interplay between creativity and technology and develops new areas in research and education directed towards the end-user.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Research areas will be within the design, development and evaluation of serious/transformational games, gamification and motivational factors and assessment of engagement and player experiences in games and interactive narratives, adaptive storyworlds, learning and interactive media. Furthermore, an interest in the emerging area of utilizing real-time game-engines for virtual productions within animation, TV and Film is a plus. Also, interest/knowledge of data driven design and applying software/programming to implement and evaluate transformational/serious games with a purpose is a valuable asset.

The candidate for this position will contribute to the research and teaching primarily within the Medialogy education.

Teaching will mainly be in the Bachelor and Master of Science graduate programs in topics such as game design, development, research, and evaluation as well as fundamental 3D modelling and animation.

The position also entails supervising bachelor and master projects, including master-theses in topics such as serious/transformational games, real-time virtual productions for film, TV and animation, interactive emergent narratives, adaptive storyworlds, real-time 3D animation, large LED screen experiences and novel media-technologies.

Therefore, knowledge of real-time computer graphics, programming, implementation in game engines (Unity and/or Unreal) and basic 3D modelling and animation (Blender and/or Maya) is a plus.

The candidate is expected to have proven scientific work within game research, with a link to Media Technology, and the use of game engines to implement interactive experiences as well as player experience/engagement evaluations.

Moreover, the candidate is expected to work closely with the Media Innovation and Game Research group, the SMILE Lab and the ViZARTS project as well as perform independent research and to engage in applications for external funding, from national and European research and educational agencies, the industry sector, and other available sources. 

The candidate is furthermore expected to document relevant teaching and publication records.

Qualification requirements:
Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).
