YOUR TEAM

You will be working within the Humanoid & Human Centred Mechatronics Research Line  at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group with strong expertise in robot design, modelling and control of new mechatronics components.  The Humanoid & Human Centred Mechatronics Research Line is coordinated by Nikos Tsagarakis, who has extensive experience in Robotics and Mechatronics. The research concentrates on robot design exploring state of art design approaches (structural, actuation and transmission systems) combined with advancements in control including whole body loco-manipulation generation, balancing regulation, and teleoperation control.

We are seeking to appoint a full-time software developer with already about 2 to 5 years working experience in software development for industrial and/or mobile robots. We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled colleague to join our start-up initiative Alberobotics. Our ambitioned and passionate team is creating a new generation of automation systems, which are fast to deploy, easy to use, highly modular and rapidly reconfigurable for new and increasingly flexible industrial application scenarios.               
Within the team, you will have key responsibilities in the controller and interfaces development for our self-reconfiguring robot middleware. Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Design and implementation of programming interfaces and communication protocols for new and custom reconfigurable robot systems.
  • Operation, experimentation and testing of the software interfaces with novel customized robot prototypes.
  • Debugging and maintenance of software tools and modules.
  • Close communication with mechatronics engineers, electronics and mechanics technicians to facilitate the integration of hardware and software.

The selected candidate will join an interdisciplinary team and have the opportunity to pursue research within the EU projects Sophia (funded by the European Union’s H2020 Programme with Grant Agreement 871237) and Concert ( funded by the European Union’s H2020 Programme with Grant Agreement 101016007) 

WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU SHINE

The ideal candidate possess:

  • Excellent hands-on skills in C++ and Python.
  • Excellent hands-on knowledge of the Robot Operating System (ROS) and the most widely used ROS packages.
  • Solid experience software design patterns.
  • Solid experience in the usage of GIT.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in the English language.
  • Strong problem-solving attitude
  • High motivation to learn new things
  • Good in time and priority management
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment

EXTRA AWESOME

  • Experience in robot kinematics, dynamics, and control
  • Experience in computer vision
  • Experience in front-end development
  • Experience with one or more industrial communication standards (EtherCAT, ProfiNET, etc. ).
  • Experience with continuous integration tools.
