The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Sinai Health System (SHS) and University Health Network (UHN) is seeking an Academic Respirologist and Pulmonary Function Laboratory Director. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, and would have an academic position description of Clinician–Teacher or Clinician in Quality and Innovation with an interest and demonstrated excellence in teaching and patient care activities. Effective start date is November 1, 2022 or thereafter.
Graduate or advanced training in teaching or quality improvement/innovation appropriate to the applicant’s proposed academic focus is preferred. Advanced training or clinical expertise in asthma/airways disease, sarcoidosis or pulmonary function testing is preferred for this position. The successful candidate must hold a MD degree, be certified (or eligible for certification) in Respirology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and hold, or be eligible for licensure in Ontario.

The successful candidate will be expected to build a clinical practice in ambulatory general Respirology at Mount Sinai Hospital, as well as attend on the Respirology inpatient and consult service at University Health Network and Mount Sinai Hospitals. The individual will also assume the role of Medical Director of the Pulmonary Function lab at Mt Sinai Hospital, including clinical administration and quality assurance. The successful candidate will practice in a new, state-of-the art ambulatory care centre at Mt Sinai Hospital with new pulmonary function lab equipment and endoscopy unit. The 6-bed inpatient unit at TGH serves our division’s complex patients with chronic respiratory diseases including interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension and lung transplant candidates, and the inpatient consult service supports our many specialty areas across 3 hospital sites including general internal medicine, surgery, transplantation, cardiovascular diseases and oncology.
Estimated remuneration will be in the range of $230,000 – $270,000 (fee-for-service estimate) and commensurate with academic rank, qualifications, and experience.
