Position Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy, within the Faculty of Science, invites applications for a Fall 2022 Term Sessional Instructor(s).
The successful candidate will have responsibilities for lecture instruction, lab co-ordination, and any other associated duties for this 3-unit course during the Fall 2022 session.
Physics 211/221 – Mechanics
PHYS 211/221 is the introduction to Newtonian particle mechanics and rigid bodies in rotational equilibrium: Kinematics, Newton’s laws, conservation of momentum and mechanical energy. Note: Physics 211 and 221 differ in their prerequisites but cover the same material and have the same examinations and tutorial quizzes. Physics 211 has an extra lecture hour per week to deal with certain topics from High School Physics and Mathematics 31.

Physics 303 – Quantum Mysteries and Paradoxes
PHYS 303 aims to explain basic quantum phenomena for students outside the physical sciences. Topics covered may include wave-particle duality, quantum interference, as well as the paradoxes of entanglement and quantum nonlocality. Applications such as quantum cryptography and quantum teleportation are discussed, as are the philosophical interpretations of the quantum picture of the world.
Physics 303 Teaching Schedule: Lectures are MWF 14:00 – 14:50 and will be offered via online synchronous delivery mode.
Physics 365 – Acoustics, Optics and Modern Physics (for students in Engineering)
PHYS 365 focuses on wave motion as applied to acoustics and physical optics. Wave-particle duality applied to light and matter; electron energy levels of atoms and crystals.

Physics 369 – Acoustics, Optics and Radiation (for students in Engineering)
PHYS 369 focuses on wave motion as applied to acoustics, geometric and physical optics, and radiant energy transfer. Traditional and modern applications.

Physics 481 – Computational Physics II
PHYS 481 focuses on random walks, cellular automata, pseudo-random number generation, Monte Carlo methods, numerical solution of ordinary and partial differential equations, introduction to Fourier transforms.

Labs are R 15:30 – 17:20 and T 16:30 – 17:20

Qualifications:
- A PhD in Physics or a related field is required.
- Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level is a strong asset.
- Experience with the Desire 2 Learn (D2L) course management system, knowledge of best practices for assessments, and techniques for engaging students will be considered assets.
Multiple individuals may be hired to instruct different courses and, therefore, applicants are encouraged to indicate the course(s) they are interested in and qualified to teach.
