Course description: In-depth discussion of bacterial structure and ultrastructure; physiology and nutrition; growth and cultivation; nature of viruses (bacteriophage and a limited survey of animal viruses and their properties); microbial genetics; immunology; the role of micro-organisms in medicine, industry, agriculture and ecology.

Prerequisites: BIO206H5 and BIO207H5

Salary (In accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement): 

Effective September 1, 2020 – Sessional Lecturer I – $16,979.33 (Y, full course) & $8,489.67 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE); Sessional Lecturer I Long Term – $17,738.50 (Y, full course) & $8,869.25 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE); Sessional Lecturer II – $18,171.15 (Y, full course) & $9,085.58 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE); Sessional Lecturer III – $18,603.79 (Y, full course) & $9,301.90 (H, half Course, 0.5 FCE). All pay rates are inclusive of vacation pay. 

Qualifications: The candidate must have a graduate degree in Biology or related field. The decision on hiring will be based on previous teaching experience in this course or other similar courses, academic qualifications, ability, and suitability for the position.

Description of duties: Normal duties associated with teaching a university course, including preparation and delivery of course content, development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams, calculation and submission of grades, contact with students by regular office hours.  Completion of all grades (may include make-up exams).
