The Buddhism, Psychology & Mental Health Program at New College seeks a sessional lecturer from September 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022 to teach the following course:
Course Name: BPM232H1F – BUDDHIST PSYCHOLOGY
Course Description: Describes the psychology inherent within the original teachings of Buddhism. Primary focus is on the understanding of the causes of suffering and happiness, the nature of cognition and emotion, characteristics of the self/ego, personality transformation, the role of the unconscious, and mindfulness meditation. Includes an option for Community Engaged Learning experience.
Estimated Course Enrolment: 220 students
Estimated TA Support: 375 hours
Class Schedule: Wednesday, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Note: This course will be delivered in-person. However, please note that, in keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery may change as determined by the Faculty or the Department
Sessional Dates of Appointment: September 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022
Salary: $8,489.67 (Sessional Lecturer I) – $8,869.25 (Sessional Lecturer I Long Term) – $9,085.58 (Sessional Lecturer II) – $9,301.90 (Sessional Lecturer III)
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Minimum Qualifications: Completed or nearly completed Ph.D. (or equivalent) in an area related to Buddhist Studies and/or the interactions between Buddhism and Psychology. Teaching experience required.
Preferred Qualifications: Relevant teaching experience at the university level preferred.
Description of Duties: Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; TA supervision and holding regular office hours.
