The following positions for Sessional Lecturers are available in the Department of Arts, Culture and Media, Studio Art discipline, for the Fall 2022 academic session. This is a posting in accordance with the Collective Agreement between The Governing Council of the University of Toronto and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3902 (Unit 3). In accordance with the Collective Agreement, this posting is being sent as an email notification to all applicants in the Department’s Applicant Pool: all Sessional Lecturers who are teaching for the Department during the current academic year or who have taught for the Department since September 1, 2005, and all persons who have submitted an application within the past twenty-four months. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with 14:12. Salary: in accordance with the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the stipend rate for a half course (Y, F or S), inclusive of vacation pay, will be:
Sessional Lecturer I: $8,489.67
Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term (Six or more years as SL I): $8,869.25
Sessional Lecturer II: $9,085.58
Sessional Lecturer III: $9,301.90

Note: all positions involve completion of any course grading not finished by December 31, 2022 for F courses.
Course Description:
Sculpture and the Everyday introduces students to contemporary sculptural approaches that include the use of everyday found materials and sculptural interventions in public spaces. Students will learn new techniques for installing and presenting artworks inside and outside of the gallery. Previous experience in sculpture is not required for this course.
Qualifications:
Teaching experience at the university level. Instructor must have expertise teaching 3-D work as it relates to the use and manipulation of found objects, installation art, and site-specific work. Expertise working with unorthodox sculptural materials is required along with an ability to work effectively in a general purpose Fabrication Lab equipped with a range of power and hand tools. The Fabrication Labs at UTSC place an emphasis on health and safety. Knowledge of and ability to teach safe practice is needed along with a current WHMIS standing. A comprehensive knowledge of contemporary 3D art practices is required along with a familiarity with diverse forms of material culture and theory. Instructor must have an active practice with sculpture, installation, and object-making. An exhibition history in a range of contexts both gallery and site-specific is required.
Duties:
All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; participation in Studio’s exhibitions and guest lecture opportunities on campus; development, administration and marking of assignments and final portfolios; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours. Applicant to work closely with permanent faculty.
