Your role
As a System Specialist in the Cloud & Apps team you participate in the smooth operations of our IT systems, often working with the middleware and OS layer.
In this role you will:
- Design, build, support and maintain IT systems. Take direct responsibility for specific IT systems, and have a supportive role in others
- Work together with other specialists from the Operations teams, as well as with our internal IT and end customers (e.g., research groups using VM’s)
- Participate in the upkeep of the VM fleet from the OS/middleware layer
- Strive actively to further develop our systems and operating models, while having a keep business running mindset
We also encourage you to develop your skills and participate in the IT transformation of systems to the cloud computing era.

What we are looking for
We’re looking for a system specialist with experience from similar positions.
- Proven critical-thinking skills and problem-solving attitude.
- Ability to work independently on critical IT systems. More of a generalist than focused on a specific technology
- Ability to consider the full lifecycle of the services (e.g., reliability, security) together with stakeholders
Technologies needed
- Knowledge of Linux operating systems, knowledge of Red Hat (or derivatives such as CentOS or Fedora) environments are a bonus
- Scripting knowledge (e.g., python or bash) with an automation mindset. Common DevOps tools knowledge is a bonus
- Knowledge of common middleware working models and software, such as web serving and load balancing. For example: Apache, Nginx, PHP, Java.
- Knowledge of common database systems operations (e.g., PostgreSQL)
You work well independently and together with team members. You can take responsibility even during busy schedules. You have good cooperation and good communication skills.
More than anything, we hope you are passionate about your field of work and enthusiastic about constantly innovating and learning something new together with others.
