Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry

The Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry (https://www.slu.se/institutioner/anatomi-fysiologi-biokemi/) is part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science and is responsible for undergraduate education, research and postgraduate education in the subjects anatomy and histology, physiology and biochemistry. The research that is conducted ranges from molecular and cellular mechanisms to the structure and function of the entire animal.

The research group in protein biochemistry works with spider silk biology, protein biochemistry, artificial spider silk and tissue engineering (see our website: https://www.slu.se/cv/anna-rising/). The research group is innovative and has published several articles in highly ranked journals and received several prestigious grants.

Duties:

We are looking for a postdoc for a project in protein engineering and functionalization of protein-based materials. The work consists of protein engineering, cloning, protein expression in E.coli,  purification and characterization these. Part of the project involves the use of microfluidic chips. Teaching is also included in the tasks to a minor extent.

Qualifications:

The applicant must have a doctorate in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or similar and have published in recognized international peer-review journals. The applicant must be fluent in English and Swedish in speech and writing. The applicant must have a good problem-solving ability to good ability to work together with researchers, teachers and other university staff. Previous practical and theoretical experience in protein biochemistry and recombinant protein production and purification is a requirement. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
