Department of Forest Resource Management

The Department of Forest Resource Management conducts teaching and research in the areas of Forest Remote Sensing, Mathematical Statistics Applied to Forest Sciences, Forest Inventory and Sampling, Forest Planning and Landscape Studies. The Department is also responsible for several environmental monitoring and assessment programs. The Division of Forest Remote Sensing works with developments of remote sensing methods for estimation of forest resources using several kinds of sensor data, for example multi-spectral cameras, laser scanners, and radar sensors. Duties

We are seeking a Project Coordinator to work full-time for the administration of The ForestWard Observatory of Climate Change impacts on European Forests, as part of the Horizon Europe project FORWARDS. The ForestWard Observatory will provide (a) timely and detailed information on European forests’ vulnerability to climate change impacts, (b) science-based knowledge to guide management using the principles of climate-smart forestry, ecosystem restoration, and biodiversity preservation, and (c) stakeholder engagement and public participation in decision-making processes. FORWARDS will aim at reconciling the current divide between forest information obtained from the ground and remote sensing, develop spatially explicit projections on forests to provide good practice guidance on effective climate-smart forestry and restoration management. FORWARDS is a large international consortium of 19 European institutions lead by SLU’s Forest Remote Sensing Division.

Applications are invited from experienced administrators for a Project Coordinator. The post holder will provide administrative support to The ForestWard Observatory, and assistance to the management of FORWARDS project, coordinating project administration through all stages of the research project life cycle, including overseeing timelines for milestones and deliverables, monitoring of the budgets and processing of financial information, preparation of consortium agreements and assistance with duties related to raising further funding expanding the domain and extension of The ForestWard Observatory. Duties also include assistance in preparing project communication and reporting, communications for the research team and other stakeholders, including organising meetings and taking minutes. Project communication is carried out entirely in an international context, and for that reason the post holder should be able to communicate effectively in English and demonstrate high proficiency in written English communication. You should also be highly organised with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

To be qualified for this position you need a university degree relevant to the position: project management, international relations or business administration. You also need to be familiar with one or many of the disciplines that relate to the post: forestry, natural sciences, remote sensing and/or stakeholder engagement and public participation. You need to have professional experience in managing EU research or innovation programme projects, and have good knowledge of the policies and requirements of the Horizon Europe programme (through experience in project and/or proposal development for Horizon 2020, FP7, or earlier EU framework programmes). You need to demonstrate proficiency in the use of English language, oral through your performance at the interview, and also written by submitting along with your application earlier works personally developed in English language in relation to the management of your previous projects and/or consortia or networks. You need to show experience in managing the communication of consortia and/or professional or research networks. Experience in international organizations and/or higher education institutions will also be regarded as a strong merit. Personal qualities needed for the position include very good problem-solving skills, excellent drafting, communication and co-ordination skills, organisational skills, good interpersonal and communication skills, and proven ability to work as a team member.
