Duties:

We offer a position as a researcher in bioinformatics at the Department of Aquatic Resources at SLU, Drottningholm. You will be part of Professor Anti Vasemägi’s research group and work with advanced statistics, genetics and genomics for research issues that link to driving forces for genetic and phenotypic variation in aquatic organisms. Examples of tasks include developing bioinformatics pipelines for analyzes from different genomic datasets and performing various omics analyzes. You will apply state-of-the-art analysis methods to large-scale biological data, such as NGS (next-generation sequencing). Other tasks include keeping detailed notes and logs of the analyzes, providing support in bioinformatics for other researchers, archiving the next generation of sequencing data in appropriate databases, interpreting bioinformatics data, writing and commenting on scientific articles. You will work both independently but also in collaboration with the research group, other researchers and students, in national and international collaborations. You are expected to apply for external research funding and be able to contribute to the supervision of students.

Qualifications:

We are looking for a motivated researcher with a doctorate in one of the fields of computational biology, molecular biology or genomics. You must have documented skills and experience, preferably a post doc, of research in the areas described above. You must have extensive knowledge of genomics, including sequencing methods and experience and knowledge of statistical analysis and experience in applying state-of-the-art analysis methods to large-scale biological data, such as next-generation sequencing data. You should have experience with Unix / Linux environments, including shell scripts and High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster usage (UppMax or similar). Experience with programming languages ​​such as Python, R, Perl or C ++ is a requirement. You must be able to present documentation of independent, high-quality scientific work. You must be able to communicate freely in English (in writing and orally). Analytical ability, motivation and ability to work independently as well as in a team are considered important qualities in this position.
