 The Max Planck Insititute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIPZ) in Cologne is looking for 2 Postdoctoral Researchers and 1 Bioinformatician (m/f/d) to start as soon as possible. The positions are funded for three years within the BMBF project “EpiHAP” within the call „Epigenetics – chances for plant research”.

Who we are

The positions are distributed between the Max Planck-Genome-centre Cologne (MPGC) and the Research Group Epigenetic Regulation of Plant Development (Epi-Group). With its service-oriented team, the MPGC offers many opportunities for advanced training in NGS-based approaches. The Epi-Group is led by Dr. Franziska Turck, an internationally recognized expert in plant epigenetics research

Your tasks

  • Establish single-cell epigenomics and transcriptomic pipelines in model plants and crops
  • Apply these pipelines to cells undergoing somatic and gametophytic embryogenesis
  • Analyze single cell data from crops and model plants during embryogenesis
  • Implement Deep Neural Network approaches for plant epigenetics
  • Push the limits of our understanding of epigenetic barriers to plant embryogenesis

Your profile

  • PhD in natural sciences, life sciences, bioinformatics or similar
  • Solid background in experimental molecular biology or bioinformatics
  • Preferably prior experience in at least one of the following: single-cell techniques, FACS, tissue culture, epigenetics, developmental biology
  • Oral and written communication skills in English (required) and German (desired)
  • Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team composed of basic researchers and industrial partners
  • Communication and collaborative skills
  • Interest in training peers and students

Our offer

You will be paid according to your qualifications in accordance with the regulations of the German TVÖD Bund (salary agreement for public service employees) up to salary group E 13 TV-Bund and all social benefits correspond to the regulations for the public service (federal service).
