The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) is a research centre for the study, analysis and public dissemination of contemporary history of Luxembourg and Europe with a particular focus on digital methods and tools for doing innovative historical research. It serves as a catalyst for innovative and creative scholarship and new forms of public dissemination and societal engagement with history.

The project Public History as the New Citizen Science of the Past (PHACS) at C2DH is looking to hire an administrative assistant as part of a recent ATTRACT Fellowship granted by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR).

Your Role…

The jobholder’s role is to provide effective and efficient administrative support to the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) under the supervision of the Assistant to the Director of the C²DH for the PHACS project, led by Professor Thomas Cauvin, whose team aims to develop public history as a new participatory model for interpreting the past. The jobholder will report directly to the Personal Assistant of the C²DH Director and Prof. Cauvin.

He/She will work closely with the C²DH Administrative Assistants and the central services of the University, notably the accounting department (SFC), logistics (SLO) and external suppliers.

This job includes mainly the following activities:

  • Agenda Management and inbox screening
  • Administration of business trips, acquisition orders, invoices
  • Organisation of conferences, exhibits, events, logistics etc.
  • Welcoming visitors, sorting out mail, handling phone calls
  • Support for presentations and lectures
  • Liaise with the university administration
  • Support with social media & communication material
  • Budget follow up
What we expect from you…
  • Graduate secretary or equivalent experience in that area
  • 2 – 4 years of experience in administration/secretary’s office, preferably in a research or academic environment
  • Excellent language skills: Fluency in English, French and/or German
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency with modern office software and content management systems
  • Team player, able to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines and demonstrate methodological, organised, pragmatic and effective approaches to the work
