The University of Luxembourg seeks to hire outstanding engineers at its Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability, and Trust (SnT). The Centre is rapidly expanding its research activities and is seeking a highly motivated engineer who wishes to contribute to experimental Testbeds of quantum communications and networking.

SnT is a center carrying out interdisciplinary research in secure, reliable, and trustworthy ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) systems and services. The SIGCOM research group carries out research activities in the areas of signal processing for wireless communication systems, including satellite communications, SIGCOM is currently expanding its research activities in exploring several emerging topics of next-generation communications systems. Your Role…

The successful candidate will join a strong and motivated research team led by Prof. Björn Ottersten and Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas to work as a Research Specialist and Technical Assistant in a number of the following topics (or more):

  • Quantum communication / Quantum key distribution / Quantum networks
  • Development of testbeds for quantum communication
  • Experimentation equipment of quantum communication infrastructure
  • Free space optical communication
  • Fiber optics / photonics / optoelectronics
  • Statistical signal processing
  • Physical layer security
  • Machine learning and artificial intelligence applied to quantum communications

The position holder will be required to perform the following tasks:

  • Perform simulation, design, and implementation of Quantum Key Distribution Techniques
  • Development of testbeds for quantum communication
  • Perform laboratory experimentation, validation, and testing
  • Assist in the organization of relevant workshops and demos

Your Profile…

Qualification: The candidate should possess a Master in Engineering (M.E. or M.Sc.) degree or equivalent in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, and an experience in a number of the following topics:

  • Development of laboratory testbeds
  • Laboratory Instrumentation
  • Knowledge of photonics and optics is highly valuable
  • Testbed design and implementation on SDR or SDN platforms
  • FPGA/CPU/GPU development and verification is highly desirable
  • Programming skills in at least one of the following: MATLAB/Simulink, GNURadio/C/C++, Labview, Xilinx Tools (Vivado, Embedded processors, Zynq, etc)
  • Wireless / Satellite / Networking experience is a plus

Language Skills: Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
