The Swedish School of Textiles is a centre for development within the textile and fashion sector through its educational and research programmes at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and doctoral levels in artistic fashion and textile design and technology, business, and management, as well as through its research activities and close collaboration with business and industry. The Swedish School of Textiles conducts extensive research regarding textile materials engineering, polymeric textile fibres, textile reinforcement for composites, smart textiles, textile management, and textile design.

Creativity, knowledge, and innovation converge at the Swedish School of Textiles. Our unique lab environments and competencies relate to the majority of the textile value chain. Our close collaboration with both business and industry shapes our educational programmes and as a result, the Swedish School of Textiles is at the core of supplying the knowledge needed in the textile industry. Here, design, engineering, technology, production, business administration, and marketing meet, and that is why our textile research, textile innovation, and textile educational programmes are so strong. This makes the Swedish School of Textiles unique in Europe as well as an internationally recognised educational environment for its work towards a more sustainable textile value chain.

In this Postdoctoral Appointment, you will be a part of the research group Polymer E-textiles with Associate Professor Nils-Krister Persson as supervisor. A large knowledge base already exists in the group as it has many years of experience in developing electrically conductive textile fibres and actuators; currently, several doctoral students as well as senior researchers are working on very closely related issues. You will thus come to a well-prepared environment. Actuators are components that, with different stimuli, can be made to move or perform mechanical work.

Placement is at the Department of Textile Technology with Niina Hernandez as immediate manager.

Job description

Your duties include research in accordance with the research programme and in collaboration with other researchers. You write and present scientific reports and present the ongoing research. You carry out experimental research regarding textile actuators and produce actuating textile fibres using chemical and mechanical techniques. You integrate these fibres in textiles with weaving and/or knitting techniques. You also work with (semi) industrial upscaling on industrial machines and the production of fabric from textile actuator structures.

Qualifications

For a Postdoctoral Appointment, a doctoral degree in a relevant subject is required, which includes physics and chemistry with a polymer focus. In addition, you must have experience in textile coating techniques and or chemical engineering laboratory work, experience in fibre production or polymeric processes, and experience in the production of structures based on organic electronics. You are a structured person who can work independently and you have the ability to prioritise among tasks. Your ability to communicate in writing and orally in English is good.

Merits:

  • Good publication history with highly qualified journals in the field
  • Knowledge of textile industrial processes
  • Documented ability to collaborate
  • Ability to communicate in Swedish

In order to be employed as a postdoctoral fellow, you should have completed a degree in accordance with the first paragraph of this section and should have received your doctorate no more than three years ago. When calculating the frame time of three years, the starting point is the application deadline.
