You will contribute to our interdisciplinary research programme and our undergraduate and graduate educational programmes. You will participate in ongoing research projects; teach and supervise students; develop new research and teaching; and build a strong network of researchers and stakeholders. Your contributions will be mainly to our Water and Climate research theme, and our MSc MEEM programme, minor programmes (ISCM, Crossing Borders, Industry 4.0), and other educational programmes of the University.
Ideal candidates will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: transformation of water-land systems to climate robust and resilient landscapes; sustainability transitions in water and related sectors; water and climate sensitive cities; water-land-food-energy nexus; water consumption, treatment and recycling; and bio-circular society. You provide strategic intelligence to policy makers and communities. Your scholarly work on responsible and just solutions and transitions includes multiple levels in the Global North and Global South contexts.
A social science background is a requirement in order to team up with our CSTM capacity group within the Department of Technology, Policy and Society (TPS). We have a keen interest in how emerging technologies and innovation affect people, organizations and society, both on a day-to-day basis and in the longer term, and how people’s behaviour, beliefs and attitudes affect developments in technology. With this approach we strive to help stakeholders for the governance of opportunities and tensions between (new) technologies and changing societal needs.
Selected candidates will be invited to present a pitch on how they could contribute to CSTM research and teaching programmes, linking vision to backgrounds. These talks are expected to take place in….
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- work in an interdisciplinary team of researchers with varying backgrounds;
- strengthen CSTM’s research line on water and climate change by conducting interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research;
- (co-)teach and coordinate courses in Bachelor and Master programmes;
- collaborate with faculty colleagues from social science and humanities perspectives, and with technical faculties;
- collaborate with academic and societal stakeholders, such as the 4TU Centre for Resilience Engineering and the local and regional authorities.
YOUR PROFILE
- PhD degree in Public Administration, Policy Studies, Human Geography, or a relevant social science domain;
- strong and versatile methodological skills, and a dedication to create societal impact through research;
- experience in applying comparative research methods, particularly qualitative comparative analysis;
- track-record of peer-reviewed journal publications in water and climate governance, preferably on both the Global South and the Global North;
- demonstrated experience with and enthusiasm for teaching and supervision in Bachelor and Master programmes;
- a University Teaching Qualification or being prepared to receive one within three years;
- motivated, positive and hard-working, with good team spirit and excellent organizational skills;
- excellent communication and networking skills, both within academia and in relation to societal partners and stakeholders;
- enjoy working in an internationally oriented environment where many cultures meet;
- excellent command of English;
- proficient in Dutch or willing to learn in three years.
OUR OFFER
We offer a permanent position (1.0 FTE) after a positive evaluation after 1 year. The starting salary, depending on your experience, ranges between € 3.974 to € 6.181 gross per month (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), based on the job profile Assistant Professor.
