Scientific Software Engineer / Ontology Engineer (m/f/d)

to join the Data Science & Digital Libraries Research Group (Prof. Dr. Sören Auer) and the Team Terminology Service at the earliest possible opportunity.

The position is initially limited until 31st May 2024 with envisioned extension. The regular weekly working time is 39.80 hours (full-time). The position is only suitable for part-time work to a limited extent. The remuneration is based on pay scale group 13 TV-L.

Your challenge

The position is set within the framework of the research project CoyPu (Cognitive Economy Intelligence Plattform für die Resilienz wirtschaftlicher Ökosysteme), funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). In this project, an AI-based information platform for efficient crisis management is being developed. In the event of complex economic challenges, the platform networks, analyses and evaluates macroeconomic, sector-specific and internal company data. From the evaluated facts, interdependencies are derived and daily updated forecasts are created to support crisis management.

Your tasks will focus on

The development of innovative and efficient solutions for a web platform that supports

  • the validation and integration of terminologies for mapping economic data,
  • tools for collaborative creation and work on terminologies,
  • the effective access and curation of terminologies (including ontology and instance mapping).

Your qualities

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master’s degree, university diploma or equivalent) in a relevant field of study such as computer science, mathematics, information science or in a related subject area
  • A very good command of written and spoken English
  • Excellent knowledge of modern programming languages, such as Java in particular, and modern software engineering methods; proven skills in software development in a team (GitLab)
  • Familiarity with methods and technologies from the environment of the Semantic Web and data management

Desirable

  • Frontend development skills with modern programming languages (like REACT)
  • Interest in mastering and applying formal methods
