Stark forskning och attraktiva utbildningar lockar forskare och studenter från hela världen. Med ny kunskap och nya perspektiv bidrar Göteborgs universitet till en bättre framtid.

The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell – what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.

The Institute is composed of the following four departments:

  • The Department of Infectious Diseases
  • The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
  • The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
  • The Department of Laboratory Medicine

At present, the institute has about 360 employees and approximately 450 million SEK in total assets.

Several ongoing studies at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Gothenburg aim to develop new oral vaccines against diarrheal diseases and to identify immunological mechanisms that contribute to long-lived protective immunity after vaccination with both new and licensed vaccines. We are now recruiting an associate researcher with experience and interest in immunology to these vaccine projects.

Duties

The job assignments mainly include immunological analyses. Both vaccine specific antibodies and T cells will be analysed, primarily using cell culture techniques and methods based on electrochemiluminescence and ELISA. Flowcytometric and microbiological assays may also be used. Additional tasks include organization of samples and results, isolation and freezing of immune cells, establishment and validation of new analysis methods and data analysis.

Qualifications

The candidate should have a bachelor´s or master´s degree in biology, biomedicine or equivalent qualifications. Knowledge in immunology and practical experience of immunological analyses are essential. Since the work will include cell culture and ELISA techniques, the applicant should have experience of these methods. Experience in clinical studies, flow cytometry and bacteriological analyses are additional merits. The candidate is expected to have good collaborative skills but can also work independently. The applicant is expected to conduct and document experiments performed alone or in collaboration with other researchers and technical personnel. The candidate is meticulous and good at planning and documenting, flexible and interested in learning new methods and techniques. Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability for the project, interest in research and willingness to learn and develop. Good knowledge of English compulsory for the position. Knowledge of Swedish is desirable.

Employment

The employment is full time and temporary, 12 months, with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
