The Department of Plant Sciences, Faculty of Biosciences, at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) is looking for an enthusiastic tenure track fellow for a six-year post-doctoral position in plant photobiology.
The successful candidate will join the Department of Plant Sciences possessing expertise in molecular plant biology, plant physiology, crop physiology, horticulture, agroecology, plant protection, plant biotechnology and urban agriculture. The Department has access to excellent lab facilities for plant cell and molecular biology and physiology in addition to an imaging center (advanced microscopy), greenhouses, phytotrons, controlled growth rooms and a field experimental station.
The person appointed will be offered the opportunity to qualify for a permanent position as Associate Professor. The successful applicant will be obliged to submit a plan describing how competence qualifying for a permanent position as Associate Professor will be achieved within the 6 years of the tenure track position. The Department wishes to strengthen the competence in photobiological responses of plants (photosynthesis, light regulation of growth and development, and light stress responses). The position holder is expected to:
- Build strong research activities within this field through internal and external collaborations, by building a team of students and researchers and by acquiring external grant funding.
- Participate actively in teaching and development of the course portfolio in photobiology and plant and crop physiology/biology and in supervision of MSc and PhD students.
- Complete the NMBU pedagogy course within two years of appointment (unless formal pedagogical training is already in place)
- Take a share of administrative duties at the department, faculty and university level.
- If not fluent in a Scandinavian language; participate in a formal language-training course and, within a two-year period, to learn sufficient Norwegian to be able to participate actively in all functions the position may involve.
- PhD degree in plant biology, plant or crop physiology, plant ecophysiology or similar with a strong competence in photobiology, preferably obtained within the last 5 years (allowing for any parental leaves).
- Broad experience in whole-plant physiology and measurements of photobiological responses of plants at the organismal, organ, cellular and molecular level.
- Strong record of peer-reviewed publications and independent research.
- Excellent communication skills both to the scientific community and to a broader audience.
- Fluency in English (oral and written).

Remuneration and further information
The position is placed in government pay scale position code 1352 Postdoctoral Fellow, salary grade 61-77 (NOK 563.500 – 765.600), depending on qualifications.

About The Faculty of Biosciences
The Faculty of Biosciences (BIOVIT) aims to help shape the future food- and bio-production through teaching and research within biology and sustainable production and use of plants, livestock and fish. The faculty has an annual turnover of approx. 250 million kroner. The faculty is organized into nine research sections: Genome Biology, Breeding and
Quantitative Genetics, Ruminant Nutrition and Physiology, Ethology and Animal Environment, Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Agroecology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Protection and Food Crops, Plant Biology and Biotechnology. The faculty has seven large and small research centers and laboratories, including a Center for Outstanding Innovation – Foods of Norway. The faculty is responsible for bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Aquaculture, Biology, Animal Science and Plant science as well as English-language master’s degrees in Agroecology, Plant Sciences, Feed Manufacturing Technology and Genome Sciences.
