Aalto-yliopiston Insinööritieteiden korkeakouluun haetaan
Väitöskirjatutkijaa hoivalaitosten palo- ja poistumisturvallisuuden mallinnusta koskevaan tutkimukseen
Insinööritieteiden korkeakoulun paloturvallisuustekniikan tutkimusryhmä hakee motivoitunutta ja poikkitieteellisestä tutkimuksesta innostunutta väitöskirjatutkijaa Palosuojelurahaston rahoittamaan tutkimusprojektiin ”Kvantitatiivisen paloturvallisuusarvioinnin kehittäminen monimuotoistuviin hoivalaitosympäristöihin”.
Tutkimus keskittyy monimuotoisten hoivalaitosten riskienhallintaan palokokeiden ja laitosten arjessa tapahtuvan seurannan avulla. Kokeiden avulla luodaan simulointimalleja ja niitä hyödynnetään hoivalaitosten paloriskianalyysissä osana uusien hyvinvointialueiden toimintaa. Tohtorikoulutettava työskentelee osana tutkijoista, pelastusviranomaisista ja sosiaali- ja terveystoimen asiantuntijoista koostuvaa projektiryhmää, joka yhdistää palotekniikan tulokset hoivalaitosten rakennuskannan tietomalleihin ja riskiarvioihin. Työssä tutkitaan mm. miten uudet materiaalit tuottavat lämpöä ja myrkyllisiä kaasuja, kuinka nopeasti erilaiset ympäristöt muuttuvat vaarallisiksi palon sattuessa, ja miten hoitajien toiminta vaikuttaa ikääntyneiden asiakkaiden evakuointiaikaan. Tulokset raportoidaan tieteellisinä artikkeleina sekä käytännön toimijoille suunnattuina ohjeina ja raportteina.
Vaatimukset:
Aiempi koulutus: Hyvin tai erinomaisin arvosanoin suoritettu ylempi korkeakoulututkinto. Palotekniikan, systeemianalyysin ja hoitoalan opinnot katsotaan eduksi.
Keskeiset taitovaatimukset:
Sujuva englanninkielen taito. Tehtävässä kerätään aineistoa todellisissa hoivalaitoksissa yhteistyössä niiden henkilökunnan ja asiakkaiden kanssa; kyky toimia hoivalaitosten vaihtelevassa arjessa ja tulla toimeen mm. vanhusten kanssa; mahdollisuus asua vieraalla kohdepaikkakunnalla (Etelä-Karjala/Kymenlaakso) tiedonkeruun aikana; termodynamiikan ja orgaanisen kemian perusosaaminen; tieteellinen kirjoittaminen; aktiivinen vuorovaikutus osana projektiryhmää.
Sopimus ja palkka
Väitöskirjatutkijan tehtävä on määräaikainen tehtävä; ensin myönnetään kahden vuoden sopimus, jota seuraa mahdollinen kahden vuoden jatko riippuen väliarvioinnin tuloksista https://www.aalto.fi/en/programmes/aalto-doctoral-programme-in-engineering/midterm-review-of-doctoral-studies-eng . Sopimuskauden kaksi ensimmäistä vuotta rahoitetaan Palosuojelurahaston rahoittamasta tutkimushankkeesta, joka alkaa 1.1.2023. Toisen vuoden aikana haetaan kahden vuoden jatkorahoitus. Rahoitushakemuksesta vastaa valvova professori. Neljän vuoden kuluessa väitöskirjatutkijan on 1) suoritettava väitöskirja, 2) suoritettava asiaankuuluvat kurssit 40 op ja 3) osallistuttava alan opetukseen. Aalto-yliopisto soveltaa suomalaisten yliopistojen palkkajärjestelmää. Väitöskirjatutkijoiden aloituspalkka on tällä hetkellä hieman yli 2500 € kuukaudessa ja sitä nostetaan tohtorintutkintoon etenemisen myötä yli 3100 € kuukaudessa.

The Department of Civil Engineering at the Aalto University is offering a Doctoral Researcher position in research on fire and evacuation safety of care centers for elderly people. The goal of the research is to build models for the fire and evacuation processes and to use them to investigate the effect of building and organizational structures on the fire risk in modern, heterogenous care homes. During the research, you will participate in fire tests to measure fire simulation input data on ignition items, make observations of elderly people’s activities and actions, combine the observations into simulation models, and perform numerical simulations using computational tools.

Requirements
Required background: A Master’s degree, preferably with excellent or very good grades. Studies in fire engineering, system analysis and nursing are considered an advantage.
Expected skills and knowledge: Fluency in English, scientific writing, and good interaction skills are required. Data will be collected in nursing homes for elderly in co-operation with the staff and customers; the ability to function in the changing everyday life of nursing facilities and to cope with elderlies; the possibility of living few weeks in a target location (South Karelia/Kymenlaakso) during data collection; active interaction as a part of the research project team.
Contract and salary
Aalto University applies the salary system of Finnish universities. Currently, the starting salary for doctoral students is slightly above 2500€ per month and is increased with the progress towards the doctoral degree to over 3100€ per month. The position is contract-based. The financing is subject to the availability of funding.
The position is for two years, with the possibility of extension for another two years. There will be a compulsory midterm review which will be completed during the second year.
