The Robotics & AI Group at Luleå University of Technology are looking for a new senior research engineer with a focus on working with realistic simulation software, and the integration of onboard sensors (cameras, LiDARs, radars) and autonomy modules into such simulation environments. Additionally, you will assist in general software development, integration, and testing, within national and European Union research projects.

Project description
You will join an excellent team and collaborate with a diverse group of people working in the field of Robotics and AI.

Duties
1. Actively working to develop a ROS-enabled simulation platform using Unity.
2. Actively working to incorporate ROS-enabled custom sensors for use in Unity.
3. Actively working to design and model 3D worlds having procedural and high level-of-detail (LOD) mesh factors.
4. Generating data-driven simulation environments for autonomy tests from real-world sensor data
5. Incorporating and testing various autonomy modules (path planning, SLAM, etc.) in realistic simulation environments
6. Assisting in the group’s research efforts through software development (optimizing existing code, translating code from one language to another, writing low-level code for new sensor integration). Mainly working in ROS / ROS2 and C++.
7. Assisting in managing, procurements, experimentation, and field trials, within existing research projects


Qualifications
1. Holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Robotics/Electrical engineering or equivalent educational background in relevant subjects.
2. Knowledge and prior experience with C++, C#, python languages.
3. Knowledge and prior experience or willingness to learn with ROS-1, 3.ROS-2 and ROS#.
4. Experience with simulation engine platforms like Unity, Gazebo or Unreal.
5. Experience or willingness to work with ROS APIs, ROS# APIs.

Further information
Fulltime time position for 12 months, with a possibility for extension. Placement: Luleå. Starting: as soon as possible or upon agreement.
