The Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) is the joint Data Science Academy of Tilburg University and Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands.

We are currently looking for a new Managing Director who will bring our organization to the next level. We welcome applications from individuals with a high-quality track record in management and an entrepreneurial mindset.

As the Managing Director of JADS you will be leading the financial, operational, HR and IT teams of JADS. Finance contains budgeting and controlling the various education programs, externally funded research and contract research projects. In addition, you are responsible for the daily operations at the vibrant Marienburg campus and its facilities. Being a data science academy, JADS has the ambition to be leading in the innovative use of ICT services. You work closely with IT services of TU Eindhoven and Tilburg University, as well as with external IT service providers to provide excellent IT services to JADS students, staff and researchers.

You will be part of the JADS Management team and will report to the JADS Scientific Director. You work closely with Managing directors and Financial Directors of sister schools and institutes of TU Eindhoven and Tilburg University. As JADS is a 50/50 joint venture of both universities, streamlining and integrating operational, financial and information processes and systems is among your responsibilities. You provide solid financial reporting that enables data driven decision making by the JADS MT. Moreover, you provide analytics, risk assessments and scenarios that facilitate evaluation of strategic scenarios for JADS further growth while maintaining quality and stability. Jointly with the HR team, you contribute to the entrepreneurial academic environment. Talent and leadership development at JADS is among your priorities. You develop a vision and build relationships with both universities to make use of the expertise and support of their shared services in ICT, HR, Finance and Operations.

The Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) is a unique cooperation between Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and Tilburg University (TiU). At JADS, we believe that data science can provide answers to society’s complex issues. We provide innovative educational programs, data science research, and support for business and society. With a team of lecturers, students, scientists and entrepreneurs – from a wide range of sectors and disciplines – we work on creating impact with data science. We do this by connecting people, sectors and industries: in the past 5 years we have been working with 300+ organizations on data-related projects. Our main drivers? We also welcome companies with their data & business innovation challenges in our professional education programs to transform an idea into a project. Due to the strong ecosystem and funding acquisition track record, JADS can uniquely facilitate initiation of new projects in collaboration with various organizations.

Job requirements

  • A completed academic degree, in the Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field with strong interest in IT and Innovation.
  • Experience in management, ideally in a professional (international) organization, with a proven track record for process improvement and innovation.
  • Financial expertise and hands-on mentality, and be able to provide analyses at a more tactical and strategic level.
  • Affinity with academic research and education, ideally with an interest in the field of Data Science, Entrepreneurship & Artificial Intelligence.
  • A team player who can connect to and work with a diverse and international team of professionals
  • Demonstrable experience with project management and (project-based) working in a team.
  • A deep understanding of governance relations and processes within a University setting and affinity with science.
  • A vision on HR, talent and leadership development in a professional organization.
  • A high level of flexibility, independence, initiative, and creativity.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written in Dutch and English.
  • Enthusiastic, motivated, and happy to work in a versatile and high paced environment.

Conditions of employment

We offer a 0.6 to 0.8 Managing Director position (in Dutch: Directeur Bedrijfsvoering). The salary, depending on experience and background, amounts to a minimum of € 5784,– and a maximum of € 8087,- gross per month for a full-time employment, based on UFO profile of Managing Director 2/3 and salary scale 14 to 15 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

JADS offers excellent employment conditions with attention to flexibility and (personal) development and attractive fringe benefits. You are entitled to a vacation allowance of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% of your gross annual income. If you work 40 hours per week, you will receive 41 paid days of leave per year. Candidates from outside the Netherlands may qualify for a tax-free allowance of 30% of their taxable salary if they meet the relevant conditions. The university applies for this allowance on their behalf. We make clear agreements about career paths and offer all kinds of facilities and arrangement to maintain an optimal balance between work and private life. You can also follow numerous training courses, for example, in the areas of leadership skills, personal effectiveness, and career development.

All employees of the university are covered by the so-called General Pension Fund for Public Employers (Stichting Pensioenfonds ABP).
