Job description
We are seeking an enthusiastic PhD candidate to join our interdisciplinary team working on a new cutting-edge project at the intersection of AI, Physics, and Oncology. The goal is to develop and implement a physics-informed, generative AI method for modeling and predicting tumor cell dynamics from static microscopic images. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of experts in statistical physics, biophysics, image analysis, and deep learning/AI to develop novel biomarkers based on cell dynamics.
As a PhD candidate, you will be part of the Eindhoven Artificial Intelligence Systems Institute (EAISI) and collaborate with researchers from the TU/e departments of Applied Physics, Computer Science & Mathematics, and Biomedical Engineering. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with industrial partners, clinicians and other experts in the field, and to contribute to the education of our students.
The position is available immediately and will be performed under the supervision of Profs. Liesbeth Janssen (Applied Physics), Sibylle Hess (Mathematics & Computer Science), and Mitko Veta (Biomedical Engineering).
Job requirements
- A master’s degree (or an equivalent university degree) in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Affinity with AI/machine learning, computer simulations, statistical physics, and biomedical science.
- Experience in programming (e.g. in Python, Matlab, C/C++ or other programming language).
- Optional: Experience with machine learning libraries and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) is a plus, and knowledge of statistical theoretical/computational physics, biophysics, or image analysis is also an advantage.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
Conditions of employment
