Your Job:

In collaboration with the Chair for Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) at RWTH Aachen University, this thesis aims to determine the impact of raw material costs on the cost of batteries for transport applications and to derive the future potential of battery recycling. Your tasks in detail:

  • Literature review on battery supply chains, from the mine to recycling
  • Review the development of raw material usage and recycling technologies in detail
  • Data collection on battery technology development, including raw material demand Python-based modeling
  • Project future demand for batteries and raw materials and derive the time-delayed need for battery recycling
  • Develop scenarios for the improvement of battery technology
  • Analyze the influence of raw material costs on future battery costs
  • Scenario-based analysis of the progress in battery recycling and determination of its techno-economic potential

Your Profile:

  • Very good academic record and currently enrolled in a Master’s program in engineering (energy technology, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering) or a related field of study
  • Interest in topics and issues related to transportation or energy
  • Ability to work independently and analytically as part of a project team
  • Experience in modeling and programming (especially in Python) is advantageous
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English and German
