The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering represents a broad field of fundamental and applied research and education within chemistry and chemical engineering. Our research activities reach from fundamental chemistry, chemistry at the interface of biology and medicine, materials science, renewable energy, to chemical engineering processing, material recycling, nuclear chemistry, as well as theory and modelling. We are committed to teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, as well as postgraduate level. Academic freedom, interdisciplinary research, entrepreneurship and making societal impact, are key factors in our work. We strive to offer an environment where you can combine world leading research and teaching with a good work-life balance.

Information about the division and the department
Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden is seeking a qualified postdoctoral research associate to develop CFD models for design and analysis of plasma reactors. Flow field, mass and heat transfer as well chemical reactions is at the core of the project. The work aims at developing CFD models to understand the flow field, mass- and heat transport and chemical reactions in the reactor. You will develop CFD models that includes the main chemical and physical phenomena in the process. The research is done in close collaboration with partners at other universities specialized in measurements and diagnostics of the reactor and industry partners. The CFD results will be validated by in situ measurements made by our partners in other research groups.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research within the division of Chemical Engineering. The postdoc is expected to develop own ideas and communicate scientific results orally as well as in written form.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
– PhD in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics (or equivalent), with a focus on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline.
– A demonstrated ability to do CFD simulations and analyze results (journal publications).
– A strong theoretical background in mass, heat and momentum transport.
– Experience in modeling reactive flows is meritorious for the application.
– Good communication skills in both written and spoken English.
– Ability to prepare presentations to communicate research results and progress to the project stakeholders effectively.
– Independence and self-motivation. Have a strong commitment to work in a research group, openly sharing results, challenges, and difficulties with the other CFD experts in the group to ensure the success of the project.

Preferred Qualifications:
– Experience in programming subgrid CFD models.
