A new opportunity has arisen in the Department of Medical Genetics (Principal Investigator: James Whitworth) to further develop a research project aimed at identifying the constitutional genetic basis of multiple primary tumours (MPT), a phenomenon that frequently indicates genetic predisposition to developing neoplasms.

We have previously established a large series (>1000) of research participants who have been diagnosed with MPT. The study is based on the analysis of tissue samples including but not limited to blood and tumour. Recruitment to the series is generally through Clinical Genetics services in the UK or further afield and remains active.

The aim of this new post is to contribute to the conduct of the project and allow its continuing expansion (e.g. through the acquisition and organisation of information and samples). The candidate will have a role in the analysis of data resulting from the samples that are acquired in order to develop and answer research questions. A broad range of skills development is therefore available as part of this role and there is potential for continuation of the work as part of a higher degree if the candidate is motivated to do so.

The postholder should hold a degree in a relevant subject area and have previous experience of working in a research environment. Basic command line computing skills and familiarity with R programming language is desirable for this role.
