We are looking to appoint an excellent communicator, problem solver and organiser to support the work of the English Place-Name Society (EPNS) located in the School of English in the Trent Building, University Park Campus.

The purpose of this varied role is to provide high-level administrative support specifically in operations, finance and membership database management. The role holder will be based in the Institute for Name-Studies (INS) library and will also be part of the wider School of English admin team responsible for the effective provision of admin support working with academic and administrative staff across the School.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our friendly and inclusive team who are committed to the smooth and efficient running of our school. If you are looking for the first or next step in your career, this is an exciting opportunity.

You will be a flexible and supportive team player who can work to tight deadlines and prioritise conflicting tasks. Attention to detail and excellent communication skills are key. You will be organised and can work under your own initiative and judgement.

What we can offer you:

  • A friendly, inclusive and supportive environment.
  • Flexibility in working hours alongside our operational requirements.
  • Generous holiday entitlement of 26 days pro rata for part-time staff plus standard bank holidays and five University closure days.
  • A benefits package including contributory pension scheme and the opportunity to take advantage of salary sacrifice options enabling you to save money on childcare, shopping, and other services.

  • Opportunities for staff development through the provision of training, continued support and options for career progression.

This post will be offered on a permanent basis. Hours are part-time (10 hours per week), commencing 1 October 2023.  Hours of work to be worked over either two or three days per week, spread across the week from Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday.

We welcome applications from candidates whose background, experience and identity broadens and enhances the diversity of our existing team. Our administrative team recognises that what helps us succeed is the different ideas and experiences of colleagues across our School, who come from a mix of cultures and backgrounds. We would especially welcome applications from members of groups who are currently under-represented in the School, particularly Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates.
