The group of Integrated Devices and Systems (IDS) has a vacancy for a postdoc to work on the fabrication of photodiode detectors for photonic integrated circuits (PICs). The main aim of the project is to research and develop germanium photodiodes that are sensitive in a broad spectral range encompassing visual to short-wavelength light up to 1600 NM. Integration in an existing waveguide photonic circuit platform is pursued, aiming for a performance suitable for quantum computing circuits. The postdoc will focus on the device design and fabrication in the university’s clean room (Nanolab). Optical and electrical characterization of the produced devices is part of the assignment. The work is done in close collaboration with several PhD students and senior staff.

This work is connected to a large European project with ten industrial and academic partners with a strong international reputation in PIC research. The aim of that project is to develop a unique PIC platform for a wide range of applications, with functions enabled by hybrid integration of waveguides, detectors and lasers. The team has full access to state-of-the-art characterization equipment as well as the MESA+ Nanolab for experimentation. The postdoc will also be involved in other research projects and student assignments, both in the IDS group and the Power Electronics group at the same faculty.

Type of work: 20% optoelectronic device design, 50% fabrication and inline metrology, 30% optical and electrical characterization, 20% literature study and reporting.
